Poem 018
I once believed the dark could only close
The doors through which the brightest daylight flows,
I thought that every ending meant defeat,
And silence meant there was no pulse beneath.
Then winter came and covered every field,
While all the living world appeared concealed,
Yet underneath the frost, the roots held fast,
Preserving what the season could not cast,
And waiting for the hour when cold had passed.
Now I have learned that darkness has its place,
That hidden growth requires a slower pace,
Some dreams need shadows before they can start,
Some fragile hopes must shelter in the heart,
Before they find the courage to depart.
